Surveying Information Centrality in the Patent System

Design & Invention Group

Professor of the Practice Chris Magee, and his team at the Design and Invention Group, have developed a formula to analyze and review patents. Using this formula, the DIG can work with companies to help predict which technologies will succeed or fail based on patent technology analysis.

"One of the measures of average information centrality for patents of a particular domain has been shown to have significant correlation with the technology performance metric (Triulzi et al., 2017). This has allowed calculation of improvement rates for 56 domains."

New attempt at domain discovery by finding coherent domains in the overlaps of top UPC and IPC classes.
